Problem of the Day: 2/13/13

Meg has a blue dress, a red dress, and a green dress. Her dress principles forbid her to wear the same dress on two consecutive days. In how many ways can she dress so that she follows her dress principles over a one week period?

Solution to yesterday’s problem:

In this problem, the ratio of each object to its shadow is equal (a bigger object has a correspondingly bigger shadow). Therefore, we can write this proportion:


where x is the height of the tree. First we can simplify the left side:


Cross multiplying,



So the tree is 36 feet tall.
